FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHIPPING AND ORDERING

Where do you ship?

We ship worldwide, with few restrictions (North Korea or Antarctica would probably be challenging). If in doubt, send me a quick email to confirm.

Can you ship to a PO box?

Unfortunately not, my printer won't accept delivery addresses to PO boxes as there are too many issues with tubes not fitting in them.

Where do the posters ship from?

My printer has a network of labs in 32 different countries, so there is a very good chance it will ship locally. Shorter delays, less damage in transit, no issues with customs, and lower environmental impact!

Why aren't all the posters available in all sizes?

I try to offer all images in all sizes: A2, 60x90cm, Framed 60x90cm and A0 (for our American friends: 16x24, 24x36, Framed 24x36 and 37x49). There are however two situations where some sizes might not be available:

  • If there are too many tiny details, they wouldn't be visible enough on small sizes. For instance El Cap or Red Rocks.
  • If the quality of the base image wouldn't support too large of a print. For instance Les Chéserys.

Which paper do you use?

The posters are offset printed on 200gsm semi-glossy paper.

What are the framed posters like?

The framed posters come ready to hang in a 20mm thick and 10mm wide frame, with no mat. By default, the frame is black pine wood, but other materials are available: dark wood, wood and white for pine wood, and black aluminum for metal frames.

Can you send me a digital copy?

All the posters are available as free downloads in fairly high resolution. If you need even more details, send me a note with the intended use

My print arrived damaged, can I get a replacement?

Of course! Just send me a message with a photo of the packaging (even if undamaged) and the poster itself, and I will immediately replace the poster for you.

What is your return policy?

Very simple: I want you to be completely happy with your prints! If you are not for whatever reason, let me know and I will offer a refund or a replacement.

I can't login to my account anymore.

I switched website platform in February 2024, and unfortunately lost all previous customer data. Please create a new account, and accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

Can I find the posters in a physical store?

A few stores carry a small selection of posters, usually only in A0. I can't guarantee how many they will have in stock at any given time, though. They are:

  • Au Vieux Campeur, Sallanches et Gap, France
  • Nepture Mountaineering, Boulder, CO
  • Yosemite Climbing Museum, Mariposa, CA

Coming soon:

  • Yosemite Mountain Shop, Curry Village, Yosemite NP, CA

THE POSTERS

Did you take all the photos yourself?

I have indeed, with three exceptions (as of September 2024): Everest and Lhotse - Southwest Faces, shot from high on Nuptse by Tim Mosedale, Denali - South Face, a 1979 photo from the grandfather of aerial mountain photography, Bradford Washburn, and Annapurna I - South Face, by Slovenian photographer Oto Zan. All those images have been licensed for this usage through proper channels.

Where do you find all the information?

Lots of different places: guidebooks of course, climbing websites such as Mountain Project, Camptocamp and The Crag, alpine journals, social media, museum archives and, most of all, speaking with locals and first ascentionists.

Why are the FA names in a weird order?

From the beginning of the project until Fall 2024, I had a policy of strictly alphabetizing first ascentionists names. This was due to the alpine roots of Mont Blanc Lines, where everyone contributes more or less equally to the ascent.

After receiving (much) feedback, I have decided to change this policy, and going forward will follow most guidebook conventions to have the name of the "most important" climber first (usually who led and/or envisioned the line). I may try to update older posters at some point, but have no timeline for that at the moment.

Why are there several sets of names and dates in the caption?

Typically, the first set is the first ascent, and the second set would be either the first free ascent or first ski descent (I have yet to find an aid route that has been skied).

For space and clarity reasons, I do not credit who bolted sport routes or made first winter ascents. I also typically only record who made the first complete ascent, even if individual pitches or portions of the routes have been made in the past.

Can you make a poster of my local mountain?

I always have a lot of posters in the pipeline at any given time, but it's always great to hear about what people are looking for, though there is never any guarantee that I will get around to doing any specific place in the short term. Bonus points if you can give me info on the best viewpoints for photos and locals to talk to!

I am writing a guidebook, can I get the base images?

Absolutely! I know how laborious writing guidebooks is and what wonderful resources they are, so would be more than happy to help in any way I can.

I want to make a first ascent, can I get the high res file to have a closer look?

Most certainly, yes! I want this project to be an ongoing resource for climbers, and nothing would make me happier than have it help draw new lines.

I also have a lot of images from many cliffs and mountains that never make it into posters, so please ask me even if you don't see the exact face you are looking for on the website.

How can I keep updated of new posters being published?

The best way is to keep checking the homepage, but I also have social media accounts: Instagram and Facebook, where I post about newly published posters.

Can you make me a custom print? Or a print without the lines?

Depending on how busy I am and how much of a change you are after, that can be possible. Send me a message with what you are looking for, and we can take things from there.

How many guidebooks do you own?

Not nearly enough! Unless I am moving house yet again, in which case I have way, way too many.

I found a mistake/a missing line!

Wonderful! Please let me know about it so I can update the poster!
